What the number means

This is the spot price of gold (XAU/USD) — the global benchmark. Your broker's price sits a few units either side because of the spread. Use it to size a trade or check margin.

FAQ

Common questions

Where does the live gold price on this page come from?

The live price is drawn from market data feeds that track spot XAU/USD, and it is displayed for reference. It is not your broker's executable quote. Your broker streams its own bid and ask, built from its liquidity and its spread, so the number you can actually trade at is the one in your platform.

Why is the live price different from the quote in my MT5 or cTrader platform?

The difference is the spread and the feed. A displayed mid price sits between a bid and an ask, while your platform quotes the side you would trade, and each broker sources liquidity separately. Small timing gaps also appear between feeds. Compare like with like by looking at your platform's bid and ask, not the mid.

Should I place an order using the live price shown here?

No, use it for orientation only. Orders execute at your broker's price, so an entry planned off a reference feed can fill somewhere else, especially in fast moves or thin hours. Confirm the current bid and ask in your platform, then size the position with the position size and margin calculators using that price.

Why does the gold price on this page sometimes freeze or jump?

Gold trades nearly around the clock but not uniformly, and feeds can pause at session breaks or the daily rollover, then catch up in one jump. Weekend closure also leaves the last Friday print standing until Monday. Treat any gap between the reference and your platform as normal and check the trading hours page.

Does a live price in dollars mean my profit is in dollars?

Yes, XAU/USD is quoted in US dollars, so your profit and loss is calculated in dollars and then converted by your broker or funding route. To see it in shillings, take the dollar result from the profit calculator and convert at the rate your bank or M-Pesa transaction actually gives you, not an advertised rate.
